Big Chief Monk Boudreaux

Big Chief Monk Boudreaux

The New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian phenomenon is part music, part heritage, part ancestry, part revelry, part fashion, and oft misunderstood. Big Chief Monk Boudreaux is one of the most famous and enduring leaders of that culture and head of the Golden Eagle Mardi Gras Indian tribe.

Keven Brennan

Keven Brennan

According to Davey Chegwidden of the Lions, Keven's music is best described as "Leonard Cohen meets Fela."

"Moody, vibey and spirited, troubadour Keven Brennan’s music is at once retro and futuristic, equal parts beatnik and boogie. Jagged word sculptures tell tales from a life spent shining light on overlooked characters and their struggles with life’s contradictions." - Blag Dahlia, The Dwarves

After studying classical saxophone at the New England Conservatory, Keven moved on to deranged punk-rockabilly bands like The Wandells, Dwarves, and Royal Pimps. Eventually moving to Los Angeles, he played rock ‘n roll sax and in 1995 cut his first album, aptly titled “Beatnik Gumbo." The Keven Brennan Band weaves fluently through musical genres, coming to rest finally at that spot where Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart duke it out for a place in your heart, your cerebellum and your dirty old soul. more...
